Take steps to impact Fort Bend County around the Lake in Telfair and raise money and awareness for the Fort Bend County CHARITY OF YOUR CHOICE! 100% of registration fees will be donated to the walker's designated charity and walkers will also have the chance to help their charity win up to $20,000 in Challenge Awards!
Benefiting 14 Fort Bend area charities, the 5k Charity of Your Choice Walk will be held on Saturday, April 10, from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon at the Telfair community in Sugar Land. Registration fees are $25 for adults and $10 for children, with 100% of fees donated to each walker’s charity of choice. In addition, TelfairLife will donate $20,000 to the winners of several challenges, such as the charity that pre-registers the most walkers.
2010 walk benefiting charities include Asians Against Domestic Abuse, Brazos Bend Guardianship Services, Child Advocates of Fort Bend, East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry, Fort Bend Community Partners Rainbow Room, Fort Bend Education Foundation, Fort Bend Family Promise, Fort Bend Regional Council on Substance Abuse, Fort Bend Habitat for Humanity, National Alliance on Mental Illness Fort Bend, Pregnancy Resource Center of Fort Bend, Second Mile Mission Center, Shape Up Sugar Land and The Arc of Fort Bend County.
Walkers can register online at www.CharityofYourChoiceWalk.com. Registration fees will increase to $30 for adults and $15 for children after March 31. Again, all fees including registration fees go directly to the walker’s chosen charity. To be counted toward the various charity challenge categories, registrations must be completed by April 6, although walkers will also be able to register up to the morning of the event.
The Charity of Your Choice Walk will take place rain or shine at Telfair Central Lawn, located in front of the Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Land in Telfair. The event will both begin and end at this location, which is along University Blvd.
The event begins with check-in and breakfast at 8:00 a.m., followed by a welcome and warm-up with Councilwoman Chaumette at 8:30. The 5k (approximately 3.6 mile) walk begins at 9:00 and is followed by a Post-Walk Party beginning at 10:30. To be held at the new Telfair Central complex, the party will include games, activities and music, along with the presentation of prize money to the challenge winners.
